Racing to & from the Glow

I've been wanting to capture this shot for over a month now. I commute on a East/West bound highway in Los Angeles for work. Recently, every day on the way home (driving directly West through the San Gabriel foothills) the sunsets have been amazing. I was inspired to scout a location where I could capture the sunset and also incorporate the freeway traffic into the shot.

Bamboo Forest

I'm a sucker for thicketed areas, such as this bamboo forest. Looking up to the sky in an environment like this is disorienting, but in a good way. For me, it instills the feeling that I am in the wild and detached from urban life for a brief moment. I'm actively trying to experience this feeling more and more often.

The Implication Bench

Choose your seat wisely.

If you happen to come across this bench while visiting the Los Angeles County Arboretum and you happen to be on a date, be wary of where you sit. That is if you are concerned about being pushed abruptly into either the "friend zone" or "love zone (phrase?)".

No Vibrance Needed

I didn't even need to touch the Vibrance toggle in post for this capture. Leave it to Mother Nature to find a way to produce specimens like this while Southern California is in the midst of the worst drought on record. #respect

Below the Reflection

I came across this little fella on a photo excursion recently. It's amazing how a photograph can cut through glare with the proper settings and editing.

A Peaceful Day on the Lake

To me reflections are always interesting to photograph. They add an element of depth and an alternate perspective that is hard to achieve artificially.

Southern California is in the midst of the worst drought on record, but believe it or not, we still have some green left down here. Not much, but mother nature is still kicking.

Low Cloud Cover Foils My Attempt to Capture the Super Blood Moon Eclipse

Long Exposure of Huntington Dr, Arcadia, CA at dusk. 09.27.2015

Last night I walked out to my front yard at about 7PM PDT to check on the look of the sky to determine whether or not I would be able to capture an image of the Super Blood Moon lunar eclipse. I quickly discovered that two things were working against me with this plan: 1 - the eclipse started at 6:15PM PDT and it is still light at that time, and 2 - there was low cloud cover which made viewing the moon nearly impossible.

I was a little bummed, but then again I didn't really have the time to make an event out of the eclipse and travel to an optimum viewing location. So I wasn't really that disappointed. However, since I had my camera and tripod all set up I decided to snap a few long exposure shots and take advantage of the moment.

"Don't worry about me, I'm perfectly comfortable down here."

This little guy's name is Sonny. He's a stray that my brother and his fiancé adopted off the street in Long Beach, CA. Well...that's not actually correct now that I think about it. Sonny more or less adopted them one day by strolling into my soon to be sister-in-law's house and stayed there.

Sonny was in pretty bad shape when they adopted him, but they nursed him back to health and now he is happier than ever.

This photo was taken in the midst of a Southern California heat wave where the thermostat was reading about 100 degrees in the shade. Sonny found a cozy spot on the hard wood floor underneath a Waltz Dresser to catch some Z's, while staying clear of 7 pairs of stomping feet. The hard wood floor probably felt nice and cool on a day like that.
